Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine is seeking a Sr. Business Manager for the Office of The Vice President and Executive Vice Dean for Research and Academic Administration.

The incumbent will provide overall administrative management and coordination of various business related functions including finance, budget, human capital, space and facilities planning, grant administration, academic support and policy interpretation and dissemination as the highest level business management administrator for the unit

Provide administrative direction and coordination in the formulation, interpretation and administration of current and long range policies, procedures and programs
Plan departmental budget needs by analyzing program plans on both a short and long term basis including projecting possible levels of support from multiple sources of funding; confer with administration and faculty to analyze and recommend priorities and goals for future needs

Determine fiscal requirements, make projections and prepare overall department budgets, prepare financial statements reflecting status of program and activities; ensure compliance with institutional
policies and procedures.

Coordinate the compilation and preparation of operational and financial reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations.

Maintain interface with department personnel to coordinate operational activities to ensure adequate space and facilities; direct the planning and coordination of purchasing, maintenance, construction and renovation activities for the department.

Supervise and coordinate the work of designated employees

Represent unit head in meetings and conferences and other affairs of an administrative nature

Analyzes and evaluates measurable objectives, makes recommendations for improvements in management policies and procedures.

Financial Management
• Develops and manages an annual operating budget and ensures adherence to operational guidelines. * Provides accurate budget variance reports as well as financial analysis in a timely manner.
• Evaluates reviews and prepares the required justification for capital equipment expenditures, including pro forma and payback analysis.
• Ensures compliance with policies and practices regarding vendor selection, acquisition and payment of supplies and/or services and promotes fiscal stewardship.
• Collaborates with the Business Office and Accounting Department to oversee department reimbursements.
• Ensures compliance with all provisions of regulatory agencies and all regulatory requirements.
• Effectively supervise departmental team to include hiring, counseling, promoting and disciplining staff as appropriate.
• Completes performance evaluations in a fair and timely manner.
• Monitors performance efficiently to explain appraisal rating and to prevent serious problems.
• Addresses internal/external complaints regarding behavior or performance and resolves in an effective and timely manner.
• Quantifies department efficiency and effectiveness utilizing benchmarking resources and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Develops and implements a strategic plan as well as ongoing goals and objectives to support clinical operations.
• Implements a quality program to reduce risk and promote quality care while supporting the Service Plus initiatives.
• Demonstrates excellent customer relations skills.
• Develops effective marketing plans, implementation timeline and key measurable(s).
• Continually evaluates existing services and identify new program opportunities.
• Develops and maintains a strong relationship with faculty, staff and individuals throughout the community.
• Represents the department by participating in trade organizations and attendance at seminars and conferences as deemed necessary by the Executive Vice Dean.
• Ensures access to educational programs for staff, patients and physicians.
•Communicates professionally and effectively with School of Medicine Leadership (Chairs, etc.) regarding patient, staff, and physician issues, problems and needs.
•Report and review all operational issues and metrics.

Accountable to the Executive Vice Dean and VP for all operational, educational, and research initiatives. * Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality in all matters.
Collaborates with Executive Vice Dean and VP on all strategic initiatives and supports the decisions on operational, educational and research initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university is required.
Minimum 5 years managerial experience and minimum 8 years of progressive experience in administrative management, including documented successful clinical and or academic management experience, both operational and fiscal, including prior profit and loss responsibilities and proficiency in grants and contracts and space and facilities management. Demonstrated leadership in strategic planning in healthcare management, including resource allocation

Previous supervisory experience with multiple direct reports

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred in healthcare administration, finance, health policy, public health, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.
Previous experience in an clinical setting is highly preferred.
