Position Summary

ccProvide daily care for research animals in accordance with federal, state and institutional requirements.
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:
-Feeds, changes cages & racks, and waters animals daily to maintain quality support for research projects.
-Sanitizes animal facility and equipment such as racks and cages by spraying with liquid chemical detergents and place in washer in order to maintain a healthy living environment for animal species.
-Autoclaves biohazard materials, equipment and all bedding to ensure freedom from germs.
-Maintains room by monitoring environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, air exchanges), Also by sweeping, mopping, maintaining assigned rooms to ensure neatness and cleanliness.
-Maintains accurate daily records of animal population.
-Maintains cage processing in the cage wash area.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma and 0-1 year of related experience.
Experience:
0-1 year of related experience. Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License and an insurable driving record. NOTE: As a condition of continued employment, all Animal Technician I, II positions must obtain Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) within two (2) years from date of employment
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
-Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to laboratory animals.
-Ability to recognize obvious signs of illness, discomfort, and irregularities, such as abnormal food and water consumption, abnormal stool, unusual behavior, death, malocclusion, ear mites, nails abscesses and wounds, in all species of laboratory animals.
-Ability to perform duties related to the care and sanitation of laboratory animals and equipment according to instructions and established guidelines.
-Ability to handle and restrain all identify sex common laboratory animals.
-Ability to work with individuals at all levels.
-Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
